Function
The Privacy & Compliance Committee (PACC) is formally charged with advising the Compliance Committee and university leaders on matters relating to the university’s compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations, as well as university polices and guidance regarding health sciences and use of protected health information including, but not limited to compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy and Security Rules (45 CFR Part 160 and Subparts A and E of Part 164) and WSU UPPM 88.25.
Composition
The university’s Compliance Committee appoints members to this committee upon the recommendation of the university’s Associate Vice President, Chief Compliance and Risk Officer, based on the departments listed on the Health Care Component chart on the WSU UPPM 88.25. Membership shall include representation from the WSU Division of the Attorney General’s Office.
Responsibilities
- HIPAA compliance program governance as well as additional state and federal laws and regulations regarding health and medical services, sciences and programs.
- Policies: Reviews recommendations as a group for new policies and also reviews current policies relating to health science compliance.
- Incident Response: Reviews and edits procedure(s) for incident response.
- Training: Analysis of current training programs and makes recommendations for new programs.
- Risk Assessment: Review departmental and university wide risk regarding protected health information.
